Who is Moki

Hello! My name is Isaac.

I am a 26-year-old software engineer currently based in the San Francisco Bay area. I have been interested in computers and programming for as long as I can remember. This blog is meant to track my progress and what I have learned throughout my career as a Software Engineer.

I am a big gamer, and “Moki” is my go-to username online. There’s no huge meaning behind it – I made it up while playing a fan-made game called Naruto Birth of the Legendary Shinobi many years ago.

A little bit about me

Video games have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From the Super Nintendo, Sega Dreamcast, and the Sony Playstation, I remember being in rooms with my siblings and having fun seeing these bright colors on the TV respond to buttons I pressed.

When I was about 9 or 10 years old, I came across a Website called BYOND, which stands for Build Your Own Net Dream). BYOND is a community that provides developer tools for people to make 2D multiplayer games.

I didn’t really know what I was getting into – but I remember there being immense joy after reading the first page of the guide and getting a crudely drawn stick figure to move around a simple maze.

Since then, I have been fascinated with computers, video games, and how we can use technology to empower people and bring joy into the world.

There’s much more to my story, but I want this post to be short and sweet.

What is this blog and who is it for?

My main goal for this blog is to motivate me as I work on side projects. I also think it would be really useful to jot down random things and thoughts that I have as I learn new languages, libraries, and experiences with different jobs. So far, most of my career as a software engineer has been at small startups (~30-80 employees).

For now, I’m going with the flow; feel free to come along for the ride.
